I have loved Baldur's Gate 3 since launch, but every time I opened character creation for Tav, I felt a little disappointed. The combat, companions, and story are amazing. Yet the custom character options felt shallow: only eight faces per race, similar hairstyles, and no way to tweak a nose or eye shape. So in 2026, I decided to fix that with mods. 2. Ghouls Customization Compendium — A Grab Bag That Fits

Ghouls Customization Compendium by Ghouls0Rules is a wonderful grab bag. It focuses on new heads, but it also includes horns, hair, and beards. The best part is that it looks fully in line with official material. It does not clash with the game's art style. It covers humans, half-elves, elves, drow, and tieflings fairly evenly, with options for every body type. If you want more choices without overhauling the whole look, this is a great pick.

3. Whispers of the Divine — Playable Aasimar

Aasimar and Goliaths moved into the 2024 Player's Handbook, and by 2026 they feel like a normal part of D&D. Whispers of the Divine - Aasimar Definitive Edition by Trips brings Aasimar into Baldur's Gate 3. Aasimar are mortals touched by celestial power. This mod delivers both cosmetics and gameplay, with several subraces and unique wings for each. I made a dramatic Aasimar paladin, and the wings looked incredible. If you want visual flair and new mechanics, this mod is a must.

4. Customizer's Compendium — NPC Options Unlocker

Major NPCs in BG3 have unique looks that players cannot normally use. Customizer's Compendium by AlanaSP opens those features for character creation. It removes the divide between major NPC styles and Tav options. Compatibility with the newest version of the game can be tricky, so a modified re-upload by pepperjk addresses some problems. I tested it carefully and made a separate save. The descriptions are sparse, but the mod is a major overhaul suite. I finally gave my Tav a face inspired by my favorite companion.

5. Trips' Accessory Collection — Glasses and Piercings

Baldur's Gate 3 has plenty of amulets and rings, but not enough face accessories. Trips' Accessory Collection adds piercings, a monocle, and round spectacles. Some piercings can be customized with gems. Best of all, the accessories behave properly during facial animations. No weird clipping when my Tav grimaced or laughed. I gave my rogue a lip ring and a monocle, and it felt perfect for her personality.

6. Tav's Hair Salon — More Hairstyles

Hairstyles are abundant in BG3, but many default styles look similar. Long hair options are especially weak. Tav's Hair Salon by Toarie adds dozens of new hair options. The downside is that it mostly supports elves, humans, and tieflings using body types 1 and 2. My elf Tav benefited greatly. I finally found long hair that did not clip through armor and looked natural in cutscenes.

7. Faces of Faerûn — More Default Faces

Each race only has eight default faces. That is very limiting, and you cannot change individual features like eyes or nose. Faces of Faerûn by Aloija adds more face options. It does not add feature editing, but the quality of the designs makes up for it. I used it to give my half-elf a softer, more unique face. It made a huge difference in roleplay.

8. Horns of Faerûn — More Horns for Tieflings

Horns of Faerûn, also by Aloija, adds only a few new horn options, but they are much more elaborate than the defaults. It also lets characters have horns without being a tiefling, though it is not compatible with dragonborn. The antlers are especially great for a druid. I made a tiefling druid with elegant antlers, and it became one of my favorite characters.

9. Eyes of the Beholder — Eye Customization

BG3 allows some eye color choices and heterochromia, but Eyes of the Beholder by labotor goes much further. It adds glowing effects, more colored sclera options, and various pupil shapes. You can even give Tav a blind eye. That can fit a character's background or add immersion. I gave my warlock one glowing eye and one blind eye. It was a small change with a huge story impact.

10. P4 Custom Tattoo & Makeup Colours — More Colors

Sometimes more colors are all you need. P4 Custom Tattoo and Makeup Colours by Padme4000 adds more colors for tattoos, makeup, and lips. It includes bright green, gold, red violet, and temptress red. I used bright green body art for a wild mage and gold makeup for a noble bard. There are enough colors to create anyone's perfect Tav.

With these mods, my Tav finally feels like a real character instead of a preset. I used:
