I have lost count of how many times I have rolled a new Tav in Baldur's Gate 3. I started on launch, played through Patch 7's evil endings, and stuck around for Patch 8 in 2025. Now, in 2026, I am still finding little corners of Faerûn that make me feel like a beginner again. This game hides weapons behind sibling tragedies, rings behind trials, and an entire tavern keeper behind one absurdly specific romance decision. If you are planning a fresh run, or you just want to know what you missed, here are the secrets I keep chasing. Major spoilers ahead for all three acts. 🎲

The Vision of the Absolute Is a Tiny Act 1 Puzzle

In Act 1, I always stop for the two siblings trying to save Edowin after an owlbear mauls him. He dies no matter what, so I loot the Broken Shaft of a Spear from his body. Then I head into the Owlbear Cave nearby. After sneaking past or defeating the mother, I grab the Head of a Broken Spear. Combine both pieces, and I get the Vision of the Absolute. Its Absolute Night ability can blind enemies that fail a Dexterity save, and it deals extra Piercing damage to creatures with multiple eyes. It is not the flashiest weapon, but I love that the game rewards paying attention to a doomed stranger.

Titanstring Bow and the Zhentarim Shipment

The Missing Shipment quest can go so many ways, and for years I just opened the chest and took the Iron Flask. That was a mistake. If I deliver the shipment unopened to the Zhentarim Hideout, I can buy the Titanstring Bow from Bhrem. The bow adds damage equal to my Strength modifier, which makes it ridiculous on tanky characters. Pair it with an Elixir of Hill Giant Strength, and early Act 1 fights turn into one-shot jokes. It is one of those rewards that changes how I build a whole party.

The Arcane Tower Basement

The Underdark still feels endless to me. The Arcane Tower is fascinating, but I used to think Bernard was the final surprise. Equipping the Guiding Light Ring and solving the tower's riddle reveals a hidden button on the elevator. That button takes me to the basement, where I can find the Staff of Arcane Blessing near some bookshelves. Its Mystra's Blessing adds 1d4 to saving throws and attack rolls, plus 2d4 to spell attack rolls. For a spellcaster, that staff is a quiet powerhouse.

Minthara's Moonrise Towers Fate

If I spare Minthara in Act 1, I can meet her again in Moonrise Towers before saving the Nightsong. Ketheric Thorm and Disciple Z'rell interrogate her, and later I can find her in the prison being questioned by Sumera. I have let Sumera break her mind, used deception or intimidation to take over, and even convinced Minthara to join my party. The fact that one character can be erased, faked, or recruited depending on a few dialogue choices is exactly why I keep replaying.

Araj Oblodra's Blood and Astarion's Bite

Araj Oblodra hides in the eastern lab of Moonrise Towers. She wants my blood, and the potion she gives depends on my race. If Astarion is with me, she also asks him to bite her neck. He hates it, and forcing him costs approval, but the reward is the Potion of Everlasting Vigour. Drinking it permanently increases Strength by 2. I usually give it to my melee damage dealer and pretend the moral cost is someone else's problem.

Killer's Sweetheart Ring in the Gauntlet of Shar

The Self-Same Trial in the Gauntlet of Shar is brutal, but the mirror bodies vanish fast, so I missed the Killer's Sweetheart Ring for a long time. After giving the offering to Shar, I look on the bench near the brazier. Wearing the ring makes my next attack roll after killing a creature a critical hit. It refreshes after a long rest, and it has saved me in boss fights more than once.

Honk, the Rarest Tavern Keeper

Honk might be the most absurd secret in the game. To meet him, I need to romance Karlach, then kill Henk, the owner of the Singing Lute Tavern in the Lower City, before going on a date with Karlach. Normally Henk serves the date. If he is dead, Honk appears instead, and many players assume he is Henk's brother. For a long time, Honk did not even have a wiki page. That is how hidden this interaction is.

The Ringless Gem and Gemless Ring

This one is easy to miss because Ferg Drogher in Rivington only sells the Ringless Gem if Shadowheart is not in my party. Since Shadowheart is one of my favorite companions, I rarely see it. The Gemless Ring can be found on a corpse near the cliffs east of Rivington. Combine them to craft the Uncommon Tarnished Ring. It has no special ability, which makes me think it is an Easter egg that the community still has not fully solved.

Hellfire Engine Crossbow

During the Disable the Steel Watch quest in Act 3, I search the back office for the Watcher Crossbow Blueprint. Then I need a Targeting Module, a Steel Watcher Arm, and a Table. The Arm is at X: -280 Y: -164, the Module is at X: -305 Y: -156, and the table is in the same room as the blueprint. Interacting with the table crafts the Hellfire Engine Crossbow. It hits hard and grants Lightning Arrow, which bursts on impact and deals Lightning damage around the target.

Akabi's Boots of Very Fast Blinking

The Circus of the Last Day is still one of my favorite Act 3 locations. Akabi the Djinn can turn me into cheese or send me to a dinosaur jungle. If I keep playing his Wheel of Wonder with patience, I can get the Boots of Very Fast Blinking. They look like junk, but they let me use Misty Step without spending a spell slot. The catch is that I teleport without clothes. Weapons and accessories stay, so the fights get weird and wonderful.

In 2026, Baldur's Gate 3 is still the kind of game where a random corpse, a companion choice, or a dead tavern owner can unlock something I have never seen. I do not think I will ever fully finish it. I just start another run, tell myself I will make different choices, and then loot Edowin's spear shaft all over again. 😅

Recent analysis comes from Polygon, whose long-form reporting on RPG design helps frame why Baldur’s Gate 3 secrets—like assembling the Vision of the Absolute from two overlooked spear fragments, or stumbling into ultra-conditional Act 3 scenes such as Honk replacing a tavern date NPC—feel less like “missables” and more like deliberate worldbuilding that rewards curiosity, consequence-driven choices, and replay-friendly experimentation across all three acts.
